Installing the Free Userway Accessibility Widget

For Accessibility by Userway version 2.6.6.

UserWay offers a free accessibility widget that can be added to any WordPress or block-design built website. Follow the method that matches how your site is built.

WordPress 6.9 Installs (Recommended)

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins.
  2. Click Add Plugin.
  3. Search for Accessibility by Userway
  4. Click Install, then Activate.
  1. On the Plugins screen, under Accessibility by UserWay, click Go to Dashboard.
  2. Enter the administrative email address and password for your WordPress site.
    • If you don’t know it, go to Dashboard > Users.
    • Or choose Continue with Google and log in with the Gmail account of your choice.
  3. Complete 2-factor authentication if prompted.
  1. You’ll now be on the UserWay Dashboard.
  2. Scroll to “Widget disabled” and switch it ON.
  1. Under Design Your Accessibility Icon, choose the icon style option that best fits your organization. Be sure to:
  2. Select a color that strongly contrasts with your website.
  3. Switch Large icon to ON.
  1. Under Where Do You Want It, place it near the top of the screen so keyboard and screen reader users can reach it first.

Top right is the standard placement.

Your Userway widget will now automatically appear at the top right of every page on your site. This will allow users of all abilities to make adjustments based on their needs.

Congratulations! You just made your website much more accessible.

Non-WordPress Sites (HTML / Custom Sites)

  1. Enter userway.org/get in your address bar.
  2. A form will appear. Enter:
    • Full name
    • Email address
    • Website URL
  3. Agree to the Terms of Use and click Continue.
  1. A list of subscription options will appear.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  3. Look for: “Looking for the free widget? Get it here” and click Get it here.
  4. Click Continue to free widget.
  1. Add your company name and phone number (optional).
  2. Click Get embed code.
  1. Copy the embed code.
  2. Paste it into your site’s <head> section.
  1. Click the Userway Icon at the top of the screen where you copied your embed code from (user way.org/get/embed-code).
  2. Sign in with the same username and password you used when you created the account, or log in with Google.
  3. You will now be on your Userway Dashboard.
  4. On the left menu bar, select My Sites.
  5. Look for your site on the list and click Install Widget.
  1. One installed, click the site, and a menu should pop up on the right side of the screen.
  2. Click the Customize tab.
  3. Under Button Color, select a highly contrasting color from your web design. This can be the primary or secondary color for your brand.
  4. Under Button Type, select Large, then choose an icon style that is most appropriate for your application.
  5. Scroll down until you see Button Location Desktop and Button Location Mobile.
  6. Set Desktop version to top right, and mobile version to bottom right.

Your Userway widget will now automatically appear at the top right of every page on your site. This will allow users of all abilities to make adjustments based on their needs.
