How We Work
Our work goes beyond producing and releasing music. We actively push for more thoughtful, inclusive design in the places where people interact with music the most: online and on the ground.
A More Open Model
Terrasongs is a small, DIY music label built around the belief that creativity and access should grow together. We support artists who advocate for themselves and others in the disability and chronic illness communities, and we challenge the systems that make participation harder than it needs to be.
We are intentionally breaking away from the traditional idea of what it means to be “signed.” Instead of operating as a closed gatekeeper, we treat Terrasongs as a shared resource. We believe that knowledge, tools, and opportunities should not be limited to a select few, but made available to anyone who is curious enough to explore new ways of creating and connecting.
Our role is not to control an artist’s path, or make stipulations about what they create, how fast they create, and how much of their energy and time they need to devote to creating. Artists in general must in some way clear the space for themselves to create. We do our best to help that space-clearing process. Everything is, and always should be, up to the artist.
Our Services
We want to be completely honest about where we are in our development. Currently we are working hard to articulate the exact scope of work that we can continue to do sustainably and reliably. The following list are services we provide (from the most current draft of our Services page, with updates posting no later than February 5th, 2026):
- Provide no or low-cost website solutions to maximize accessibility for users with low-vision and limited hearing.
- If you are a venue, we can write an accessibility page – all the info someone needs to know to plan a visit. Here is an example of one of our pages.
- Provide advice and best practices for releasing your music – what to avoid, how to choose the right distro, and how to get the most out of your release.
- Provide advice and guidance on production tools, techniques, and processes.
- Provide assistance in registering your music with Publishing Rights Organizations and Mechanical Licensing organizations, so you can collect royalties for your work (NOTE: we cannot provide legal advice). Check out our Sample Split Sheet.
- Connect you with other local artists: musicians, visual artists, songwriters, producers, engineers.
- Provide you a list of venues and spaces that are accessible – download our Venue Accessibility Spreadsheet. Steal this and make one for your city!
- Mix or master your next release / create content for releases and promotions.
Opportunities to Get Involved
Terrasongs is a collaborative project, and our work grows through shared effort. We welcome volunteers, interns, and contributors who are interested in accessibility, music production, inclusive web design, advocacy, or developing other hard skills.
Whether you’re interested in volunteering your time, joining as an intern, or contributing your skills through paid project work, there are many ways to support what we’re building. If you believe in making music culture more inclusive and want to help shape how that happens, we invite you to grow alongside us.
